Generally speaking we haven’t had a ton of success with Twitter. It drives a bit of traffic, not a ton. And metrics like followers are kind of silly unless they translate into something tangible.
We’ve also tried Promoted Tweets and we just haven’t seen that much success. We’re open to suggestions.
BUT…we are still getting new clients from Twitter?
How?
Well, we pay attention.
The One Thing We Do to Get Customers From Twitter
We pay attention to people talking about call tracking or marketing analytics. Then we Reply or DM them.
That’s it. It isn’t hard. But it is effective.
Every single day we find someone talking about how they need call tracking, or how they don’t have enough marketing analytics, or how they can’t measure their marketing effectively.
We simply reach out to these people and a customer is, shortly thereafter, born.
Can You Replicate This For Your Business?
Yep.
You simply need a tool like Hootsuite. Then you just add a stream containing keywords or phrases that are important to your industry. Then you pay attention to it a bit.
When someone mentions your industry, your product, or a feature that you have, you reach out to them IMMEDIATELY.
A B2C SMB Example
If you own a tire dealer in Des Moines you would want a stream showing when anyone is mentioning Des Moines. Even if they’re not talking about tires.
Then, you would want another stream that shows when someone mentions their car in Des Moines, or tires in Des Moines, or brakes in Des Moines…the list goes on.
When someone appears in these streams you simply Reply to the Tweet and tell them about a special or an offer. You need to get them into the shop. Everyone needs tires. Everyone. Even if they don’t buy immediately, they will be impressed that you contacted them and they will buy eventually.
A B2B Example
If you’re a business attorney, accountant, or technology company, you should again, look for the phrases that people are talking about that indicate their interest in your product or service.
You know what these phrases and words are. Just watch for them.
The Key
The most important element of this whole process is immediacy. You need to reach out to these people as quickly as possible. This requires a reasonable amount of monitoring. There are also tools out there that will alert you when someone is mentioning one of these words.
Communicate and engage. That is how you will get customers from Twitter.
