According to a study titled, “Incentives, Motivation and Workplace Performance: Research and Best Practices,” conducted by researchers for the International Society of Performance Improvement, and funded with a grant by the SITE Foundation (today the Incentive Research Foundation), determined that incentive reward programs can actually boost performance by anywhere from 25 to 44 percent.

Non-cash approaches were also rated as being more important than cash awards for motivating employees. Specific non-cash awards were judged to be the most effective motivational tactics.
