This week, Allstate Insurance launched Drivewise Mobile app which collects a driver’s speed, time of day, hard-braking events and location. The idea is to reinforce good driving habits while allowing the insurer to personalize its product to the specific needs (and habits) of the individual.

Last week, Russia’s Alfa-Bank introduced a new savings account which helps customers earn higher interest rate based on their exercise patterns. Customers can connect their ‘Activity’ account to their wearable device with a Fitbit or a RunKeeper account and the more they exercise, the more money is transferred to a higher interest account.

Uber’s latest valuation at US$17 billion is validation of how digital when coupled with a traditional service like limousines and taxis can help create new value propositions for all stakeholders – consumers, service providers and technologists alike.

Walgreens now generates up to 15% of its photo-printing business from mobile devices after it provided a digital interface for app developers to provide direct print facility at their outlets.

AirBnB’s technology allows people to rent out lodging essentially converting every living space on the planet into a competitor for the traditional hotel, motel and hostel industry.

Such innovative business and revenue models have become possible due to the explosion of ‘Digital’ into all our lives. It is giving rise to a whole new way of doing business. It is no longer eCommerce or mCommerce or Agile Commerce.
