We’re down in London for business tomorrow and we were wandering around the bars and restaurants in Mayfair today looking for something to eat (as you do!). Many were very quiet with not many customers in, but we came across the Sofra Restaurant, a Turkish restaurant, and it was absolutely heaving. We thought that has to be a good sign and decided to take a look. We liked what we saw, so we went in.
On taking our seats we saw a sign next to our table that said….
“IMPORTANT INFORMATION….
I AM YOUR SMILING SERVER AND MY NAME IS ON MY COLLAR TAG. I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE DELICIOUS FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE. I RECOMMEND YOU TO CHOOSE HOT AND COLD STARTERS TO SHARE AND A MAIN COURSE (YOU CAN ALSO GIVE ONE BITE TO YOUR LOVED ONE)
DRINKS IN 2 MINUTES. STARTERS IN 5 MINUTES. COMPLIMENTARY HUMMUS, OLIVES AND WARM HOMEMADE BREAD.
I WILL BE VERY PLEASED TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS AND COMPLAINTS. IF IT IS NOT TO YOUR PERSONAL TASTE WE WILL GIVE IT TO THE CHEF TO EAT IT!”
It was finished with the owner, Huseyin Ozer’s name and had his email and mobile telephone number for contact.
The signage was a great way of…
- Setting and managing customer expectations, and…
- Demonstrating their ‘Dramatic Difference’ which was the quality of their food and excellent customer service
- Reinforcing their ‘personality’ which is clearly part of that ‘Dramatic Difference’!
There were some other nice little touches too – the menu descriptions included ‘from (my ex) mother in laws’ lovely recipe’ and kids were invited ‘to eat what they want and you decide how much you pay’.
They then ‘delivered’ – and that’s obviously the important bit! The service was excellent – personalised and friendly, and the food was absolutely wonderful.
So, ‘Thinking In 3D‘ won them 2 new customers who are very happy to tell lots of other people too!
Next time you’re in Mayfair, get yourself to Sofra… and in the meantime, have a think – how does your business Demonstrate its Dramatic Difference? Does it do it?
