Sigma Joins VMware Technology Alliance Partner Program, Offers Virtualization Solutions for Comprehensive Testing and Lab Infrastructure Consolidation

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — April 15, 2008 — Sigma Resources & Technologies, a leading supplier of testing technologies for networking, security, telecom and wireless, today announced it has integrated its test automation solution with the award-winning VMware Lab Manager and has joined the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. The new relationship will enable end-user customers to leverage the integrated power of Sigma’s SigmationTF testing framework and VMware’s lab automation and other virtualization products to accelerate the development and deployment of bug-free applications and make the transitions between physical and virtual aspects of IT smoother.

SigmationTF, a comprehensive test automation framework designed for testing TCP/IP based network products, automates test running and enables reporting and archiving of test results. VMware Lab Manager is an image library management and automated provisioning system for use with VMware Infrastructure, the market-leading datacenter virtualization and management platform. VMware Lab Manager reduces server, storage and provisioning costs for a range of scenarios, including application development and testing. Working together, VMware Lab Manager provisions the multi-tier virtual machine configuration, while SigmationTF automatically orchestrates the tests that run on VMware Infrastructure.

“Through integration with VMware Lab Manager, SigmationTF offers a differentiated solution that delivers significant automation benefits to customers,” said Raghu Raghuram, vice president of products and solutions at VMware. “The combined capabilities of SigmationTF and VMware Lab Manager not only reduce costs for quality assurance organizations, but also accelerate time-to-delivery, which sharpens competitive advantage.”

According to research firm IDC, the number of servers used to run virtual machines will increase dramatically between 2005 and 2010. By 2010, 1.7 million physical servers are expected to be shipped to run virtual machines, a threefold increase over 2005. As a result, the management of virtual infrastructure is taking center stage at larger enterprises, accelerating industry standardization on VMware virtualization across test, development and production.

The combination of SigmationTF and VMware Lab Manager will greatly accelerate the process of testing software, implementing it on virtual machines and managing the infrastructure supporting those machines. The combined solution will allow an organization to achieve some of the highest automation rates. As a result, QA managers will have a robust, near bug-free software; a smoother transition from test to production software; lower costs; and tighter synthesis between the physical and virtual worlds.

“Our relationship with VMware gives SigmationTF users a comprehensive lab solution that enables ‘once-configured, forever-reproducible’ test cases,” said Jia-Ru Li, vice president, technology, Sigma Resources & Technologies. “The solution will free companies from being concerned about which virtual devices they have, the configuration of a remote machine, or how to configure different and various topologies within the physical environment.”
