When monitoring solutions were first introduced, everyone rejected them. People saw them as invasion of their privacy. However, with time, these monitoring solutions evolved, ensured people’s privacy and now they have become pretty common and are being utilized in most multinational corporations. The reason behind their sudden surge and popularity is their amazing utility. These tools help companies keep track of their employees, and provide every little detail about them. Knowing that they are always being monitored, employees behave themselves and don’t waste too much of their time at the workplace. They may not like being watched all the time, but knowing that all of their activity is being monitored keeps them focused on the given tasks.

Despite monitoring solution’s success and utility, a lot of small and medium enterprises and even corporations are not making use of them, which is surprising to say the least. I believe that businesses are not going for these tools because they fear that it would just get them in trouble. To put it simply, they lack awareness about them, and that’s understandable. They have been marketed as a spying tool and the word spy just doesn’t have the right ring to it. No small or medium organization wants to get in trouble at an early stage, so instead of seeking help from such tools, they just avoid them. Realizing how much misconception there is about monitoring solutions, I decided to explain its advantages and how it has been helping employers all over the world, and how it can help increase overall productivity in your company.

What are Monitoring Solutions?

Before diving into details about monitoring tool’s advantages, let me just explain what these tools actually are and what they are capable of. First of all, let me just say that the misconception about monitoring solutions is not actually a misconception – monitoring solutions do exactly what you think they do. They keep tabs on employees’ workplace activities. Take Mobistealth for example – it is a monitoring tool that keeps track of employees without compromising on anything. It monitors their key logging history, take notes of what websites they visit, keeps an eye on their text messages, and even emails.

Now you may be thinking, this information is personal and should not be looked at, and that would be true. However, to counter this privacy argument, developers of monitoring solutions have added a new feature to their solutions, which gives its control to only one user. Now who the employer gives that control to is completely up to them. They can be in charge of it themselves and oversee everything on their own, or they can hire a new team for it, or they can give its control to the IT department. Bottom line is, all of the processed information will only be shown to one party. This way privacy remains intact no matter the scale of an organization. Almost all monitoring solutions work in a similar fashion. They log almost everything that happens on an employee’s workplace device and provide a draft of it to the employers or whoever is in charge of it. What good employers do is that they capitalize on this information in multiple ways, a couple of which have been discussed below.

Stop Excessive Time Wasting

Time wasting is an issue that has been plaguing businesses for a very long time, and monitoring solutions have proved to be a great counter to this problem. With their help, people in charge are able to see what’s happening on everyone’s computer and if they see them wasting a large chunk of their time on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube, they penalize them. This not only helps put one individual back in line, but it also helps other people realize that they need to be focused on their work or they might get the same treatment.

So, just by penalizing one employee, employers are able to put every one of their employees back to work. This kind of harsh behavior may lend employers a bad reputation but in the long run, it will help increase their company’s productivity and that’s what employers are or should be concerned with. They realize that their reputation is dependent on their firm’s success and if it does well, they will be respected. This is why they don’t care about opinions of their employees in this regard and take harsh decisions when necessary.

Use it as Rewarding Tools

While some may use monitoring solutions as a punishing tool, some employers have turned it into a reward system. Now that they are able to see what their employees do at every given second, they are able to see actually put in an extra effort in their work. People who work hard and prove themselves consistently which of the employees have are rewarded at the year’s end. This not only motivates that particular employee to work even harder in the upcoming fiscal year, but it also encourages other employees to prove themselves.

They all start to put in extra effort into their work, so that they’d be the reaping the rewards and this helps increase the overall company’s productivity. This is the better of the two ways to deal with employees via monitoring solutions. It does cost a bit as you will have to reward your highly performing employees, but it will also help create synergy at workplace, which is something every employer crave. Without synergy, you will still go towards your objective, but your company’s progress would be really slow. However, when all of the workforce is motivated and is giving its 100%, then your organization can easily run past its objectives and achieve completely new feats.

Both of the aforementioned methods are currently being practiced in a lot of high-end corporations, and are one of the reasons behind their success. Monitoring solutions are no longer considered spying tools – they have amazing utility and can really turn things around for your business if utilized in the right manner. Monitoring solutions’ purpose is to give options to the employers. It is then completely up to them on how they make use of them. They can turn it into a spying tool, a reward system, or use it as a way to stop time wasting. Monitoring solutions’ importance has been realized by most of high-tier corporations, and now it’s time for small and medium enterprises to jump in on the action as well.
