Some very interesting developments for the mobile users were noticed in the week that went by. Some interesting apps were launched, some were updated and the big players made some major announcements as usual. So let’s dig in deeper to find out the Top 5 News from the amazing world of Mobile Apps and for Mobile technology in general.

 

1. Flipboard App Update – Now you can create and publish your own magazine online!

Flipboard mobile app, which started as a social media content aggregator, is popular for the simplicity of use it offers and is currently among the most popular digital magazine apps. Last week saw Flipboard app come out in an updated form – Flipboard 2.0.

The recent update allows users to bookmark/handpick content from the app feed and then create a completely personalized magazine. Users can also share these personalized magazines with anybody (by tagging people) and everybody! Plenty of customization options are available to the users; once published, these magazines will appear within the search results of Flipboard, letting the community to access it easily.

The updated Flipboard 2.0 version is only available as an iOS app/iPhone app; the android users will have to wait for some more time before the android app update of Flipboard is released.

 

2. More value to Google Translate App – It now has offline support!

Google Translate app will now allow users to make use of the google app even when they are not connected over the internet. This became possible recently when Google Translate app added comprehensive offline support to its Android variant.

We think that this app update is a much-needed development from Google, simply because Google Translate has become a very useful mobile application for travelers all over the world. Now, with this development, they can communicate with ease in foreign lands even in places where they can’t find internet connectivity.

 

3. Apple adds customizable geo-location alerts to its Find My Friend app

Apple has launched an update for its Find My Friend app – one of the least used iPhone app. With the update it is clear that Apple wants to give this app a renewed run – the updated version comes with an improved user-interface that is designed to allow users to keep a tab on their friend’s whereabouts more easily. Users can also send alerts when they or their contacts comes in or exits a location (pre-fixed location). In fact, Apple has taken this notification feature quite a few notches up by now covering large areas rather than just places on the map like home, etc. In addition, users can also send notifications to friends and family while they are traveling abroad.

This updated iPhone app (iOS app) is available to devices with iOS 6.1 version and upward versions.

 

4. Spotify – Now on LG mobile platform as well!

Among the most popular music related app for all platforms – desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile; Spotify allows users to listen to their favorite music and even download it with ease. Last week saw Spotify launch its new LG Spotify app that will allow users with LG SmartPhones and other smart devices to download music of their choice, create their own playlists, and listen to music on-the-go. Users can search music from the huge music library of Spotify and also create their own (personalized) radio channels with Spotify.

LG Spotify app will be available for premium Spotify account holders from this month (April 2013) and will support select smart LG devices.

 

5. Evernote – Updated (version 5.0) to Stay Relevant

Evernote, the popular note-making application has released an update (version 5.0) for its Android variant. Evernote has been under lot of pressure from Google, which launched a similar note-making app – Google Keep. Quick to respond, Evernote came up with this updated version for Android platform last week. A series of new features were added with this recent update; some notable ones are:

Multi-shot camera mode – this app feature allows you to shoot multiple images of something and then save all of them to a single note.

Page Camera function – this mobile app feature allows you to use your SmartPhone like a scanner!

Plenty of new shortcuts to access tags, notes and ability to sync them – so that they are accessible across all platforms.
