It is very important for people to practice social distancing to stop the COVID-19 pandemic that has taken the world by surprise. Looking at the number of deaths, it is quite evident why WHO is asking people to stay at home and maintain social distancing. Currently, there is no cure available for COVID-19, so it is better to remain indoors. Many companies are making it easy for people to stay home and work during these difficult times.

Spectrum is one of the largest cable TV and internet service providers in the United States. Spectrum offers its services in select areas of 42 states and has taken the initiative to aid customers with self-installation so they can set up the internet without at technician entering their home. The initiative by the company is a preventive measure to safeguard people from the spread of coronavirus and at the same time let people install the internet themselves so they can stream popular online content, do office work, participate in school work and manage their businesses.

Spectrum wants its new customers to consider their safety first and for this reason, it has provided a step by step guide for people to install the internet service. There are dedicated customer service representatives available to help to customers with any challenges that may arise. If you have ordered Charter Spectrum internet service, here is a guide for the installation of your internet service, so you can do it on your own.

First Things First

The Spectrum internet installation is fairly easy and you don’t need to be an engineer to install it by yourself. The first thing to do is check and make sure everything is supplied in the kit.

Wi-Fi router
Modem
Power cable
Ethernet Cable
Co-axial cable
Instruction manual

Once you are sure you have every item, you are ready to go through the installation process.

How Will You Do It?

Just think of it as several items that need to be connected properly with cables to receive the signal at your desired frequency. You can set the frequency through advanced router settings. 5 GHz is a faster frequency but offers a shorter wireless range while the 2.4 GHz is a low speed but with longer wireless range. Now let’s move on to the step by step guide:

1. Connect the Modem

Plug-in the power supply to the modem with the power cable. Now connect one end of the coax cable to the modem and the second end to the cable outlet. Once the indicator light becomes stable it means the connection is complete.

2. Connect Modem to the Router

Connect the modem to the router with the Ethernet cable. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable in modem and the second end in the “internet port” of the router. Now connect the second power cable to the Wi-Fi router to supply power to it from the nearby electrical outlet. The light indicating Wi-Fi status will turn to a solid green color.

3. Activating Internet Service

Once you are done connecting the Ethernet cables and power cables and make sure all the status lights are solid in color, it’s time to activate the internet service. Connect any of your preferred devices like your smartphone, laptop or desktop computer to the Wi-Fi. Now connect to the Wi-Fi and open a browser in your device. You will be redirected to the Spectrum internet activation webpage where you will fill in the login details written on the back of the router. Once you are logged in you can choose your preferred network setting and follow other activation procedures.

If you somehow get stuck anywhere in the process, you can call Spectrum customer care service to troubleshoot your problem. It is great that a company like Charter Spectrum is helping people in times like these, when people have to manage so much of their work from home, participate in school online and at the same time adapt to living an isolated life which most of us have never considered.

  1. Why didn’t spectrum offer a reduction in the cost of cable to their established customers during this time??? As a senior and long time customer this is my only connection to what is going on.. called and asked if there was any new pricing plan to help surprised there was nothing…

  2. This does nothing for existing clients who have fell upon the misfortune of being impacted. This is a way to bait new customers and boost subscriber numbers, as existing clients like myself who have had to close business have their service suspended. I guess it’s a net wash for Spectrum.

  3. I have the same issue. I’m on a fixed income and I’ve been with Spectrum since it took over Time Warner Cable. In fact, I used to work in the call center of TWC. It seems like instead of just trying to get more customers, they would help out the long time customers they have.
