“They” say the first billion is the toughest. This year, Facebook reach 1 billion users. This is an atonishing number since there are only 7 billion people in the world! This means that almost 15% of the world has a Facebook account! Bloomberg Business in their cover story this month gives some other numbers by comparison:

US population: 314 million people

McDonald’s daily service: 68 million people

Road through NYC subway in 2011: 61 million

Super Bowl viewers in 2012: 111 million

Copies of Harry Potter sold: 27 million

Google searches every day: 3 billion

Number of virtual famers in Farmville: 80 million (only 1.3M real farmers in the US)
