New Innovative Remote Monitoring Capability Enables Managed Service Providers to Proactively Report Without Requiring a Dedicated Connection

Westborough, MA – February 5, 2008 – ComBrio, Inc., providers of Remote Product Services (RPS) software, today announced the general availability Virtual Service Infrastructure (VSI) 4.0, the next generation of the company’s secure remote monitoring and management software.

VSI 4.0 introduces a key innovative remote monitoring/management module called Transparent Management Channel (TMC). This ground-breaking new feature makes VSI the industry’s first and only remote management solution that allows managed service providers to remotely and securely poll for native status, statistics, or alerts from remote devices without the need for a dedicated or persistent connection such as a VPN or agent placed at the end of the customer’s network. The TMC feature allows managed service providers to leverage their existing investment in “best of breed” network managed applications such as HPoV, Tivoli or any proprietary applications that perform management and maintenance through the retrieval of information from managed devices. TMC allows for the extension of these capabilities beyond the boundaries of a local LAN to include management of devices behind customer firewalls.

Other key benefits of VSI 4.0 with TMC
• In addition to the standard remote monitoring capabilities found in VSI, TMC allows service providers to perform proactive monitoring and management functions such as an SNMP MIB walks, SysLog retrievals and other protocols where the process of information request is initiated from network managed applications at the operations center. This means service providers can now achieve real-time remote data retrieval without the delays typically encountered with VPN connection setup or proxy-based communications.

• VSI with TMC allows network managed applications to establish an instantaneous single-directional connection to specific ports and protocols on a remote device IP address. It then allows the associated response packets to flow back normally to the network managed applications without requiring any modifications to either the customers or providers network security. This means that service providers can automate remote data collection through their standard scripting routines without requiring additional scripting for connectivity.

• The new version of VSI also allows multiple transparent management circuit sessions to occur simultaneously. These sessions can be configured to support multiple instances of network managed applications. This means that all TMC communications are transferred within secure connections, along with traceability reporting to meet audit trail requirements.

“It is imperative for managed service providers to efficiently use their investments in back office network managed applications to not only meet Service Level Agreements but to control operational costs through the centralization of applications and processes,” said Dave Boulos, VP of product management, ComBrio, Inc. “VSI with TMC eliminates the need to replace existing back-end applications and processes found with other proprietary remote product services solutions and allow services staff to proactively monitor and manage operations more efficiently than ever before.”
