At the risk of showing my age, I remember a TV ad for Hertz from ‘way back when. “Let Hertz put you in the driver’s seat.” The ad came to mind when I read the announcement that airline Virgin America has partnered with Hertz to offer Virgin America’s Elevate loyalty program members deals on Hertz rental cars. Elevate members earn one Elevate point per $1 spent on qualifying rentals.

At the end of the commercial, a well-dressed couple descend from the skies to land in a driver-less convertible. I never considered it a marvel of special effects, but now I suspect special effects weren’t involved at all. Apparently the couple was parachuting in from a Virgin America flight.

I wonder if passengers will be required to wear hats when taking up the offer.
