Remove the door completely
Green Goldfish Project #136 – Flour Bakery + Cafe
One of my favorite scenes in “The Matrix” is when Neo is talking to the child prodigy about bending a spoon. The child gives a spoon to Neo and says, “Do not try to bend the spoon, that’s impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth… there is no spoon.”
It’s a great segway into an interesting approach by a New England company. An organization that not only talks about being open, but does something to make it abundantly clear. Actions speak louder than words. In short, “There is no door.”
Taken from a post by boston.com:
Flour Bakery + Cafe has three locations in Boston and Cambridge, also a high scorer in appreciation, none of the bakery manager offices have doors, and all have anonymous suggestion boxes. “We try to create all sorts of ways to get feedback from the staff,” said general manager Aaron Constable.
Today’s Lagniappe – Here is a YouTube video on Flour Bakery + Cafe. Love their slogan, “Make life sweeter, eat dessert first“:
The Green Goldfish Project is a quest to find 1,001 examples of marketing lagniappe for employees. Green goldfish are the little signature extras given to employees. They help differentiate a company, reinforce culture, increase retention and drive positive WoM. The book, “What’s Your Green Goldfish?” will be published on March 29, 2013.
