The Top 3 Tips To Create A Connected Company

Neeru Arora, the Chief Information Officer and Chief Knowledge Officer for Aon, recently joined me at the Future of Work Forum in Chicago. Aon is a prominent professional services firm that serves many top Forture 500 companies. They are the leading provider of risk management, insurance, human resource solutions, and more! Aon advises their clients on a daily basis around topics such as retirement, talent, capital, and analytics. It is a very culturally diverse organization with 72,000 colleagues in 120 countries. They strive to create a connected company for a better experience, for employees and clients!

Neeru’s number one tip for creating a connected company is to very clearly understand the objectives and the outcomes that you are trying to drive. You should know what the purpose of your business is and be prepared to make investments to fund your objectives. Her second tip is to look internally at the culture of your organization. Evaluate how your culture fits with your strategy. Aon implements this with a Cultural Readiness Assessment. Neeru’s final tip is to follow the 4 C’s.

Aon’s 4 C’s are connecting colleagues, connecting content, collaboration, and communications. Colleagues should be connected to tap into the knowledge to serve your clients. Aon created profiles that facilitate connection based on skill and expertise. They also have a library full of key content at their fingertips so content is connected across all 500 offices. Collaboration is another key to creating a connected company. Aon wants to ensure that colleagues can have access to anyone at Aon, any time. For this goal they launched Yammer, a collaboration network, in 2014. Last but not least is communications. Internal and external communication is a major key in a connected company. By following these 3 tips of understanding your objectives, assessing your culture, and the 4 C’s you will be on your way to creating a connected company!
