Super Bowl 2011 2nd Quarter Ad Review

The second quarter was not memorable for ads with a couple of exceptions. My favorite was the Motorola Xoom ad that smacked Apple in its 1984 face. And that makes no difference until we see how the product does.

Dumb ad of the quarter goes to Snickers and their stupid Rosanne ad. She is not Betty White. The ad was not particularly funny or effective. I thought both BMW ads, X3 being and American Car, and the BMW diesel ad were well done an on message.

Career Builder continued with their monkey themed ads and it was quite funny. While Teleflora clearly delivered a “guy focused” ad.

Probably the most popular ad of the 2nd quarter was the VW ad featuring the kid with the Force. It has had close to 30 million downloads. And what was the message? I’m not sure. I was told they designed the ad to appeal to women, which is why it included a little kid and a dog. VW is apparently trying to improve its appeal to women.
