Social media presenceYour business has got social media covered, right? You’ve got a Twitter account, a Facebook page and a YouTube account. You’re regularly interacting with your customers and producing engaging content that gets them talking.

But then you plateau.

The number of Twitter followers you have stops rising, your Facebook posts are getting likes and comments from the same people over and over again. You’ve begun to neglect your Google+ page because new posts on Google+ are like throwing a stone into an empty ocean. Where did it all go wrong? How can you use social media resources to turn things around before your company’s online presence stagnates?

#Twitter

You have a Twitter account; a fine start. But to actually reap any rewards you have to use it. This doesn’t mean you can post something and just expect thousands of people to re-tweet it instantly. The best way to make sure that your tweet is seen by more than the thousand or so followers you have is to attach a relevant hashtag to it.

Hashtags can be a great way to spread content all over Twitter, but you’ve got to be clever about it. Tweeting about your restaurants new sandwich and using ‘#sandwich’ in the post may not lead to it reaching that many people. Some hashtags can get lost in the torrent of tweets if they are too general or related to a popular topic. Think of your Twitter hashtag as you would a keyword on your website. Make sure your scope isn’t too broad, while also targeting it towards the kind of people you want to hit. Hastags can be a very useful social media resource if some thought is put in to how they are used.

Hashtags can be used to engage your followers in a conversation. Then when they tweet using the hashtag, they are exposing their followers to your conversation. This can then cause a domino effect. It may not be realistic to assume your hashtag will go viral and start trending, but there’s no reason not to dream big as long as you have put some thought and creativity into the whole process.

Hootsuite

Managing all of your business’ social media profiles at once can be a pain. How content appears on different sites also has to be considered when you post it; you can’t simply copy and paste links and hit ‘send’. Hootsuite allows you to lord over all of your social media accounts at once like some kind of omnipotent god.

This means you can easily coordinate the release of your content to target a specific audience at a specific time of day. You can view all of your feeds in one glance, reply to mentions or comments and create content that is specific to each social media site. The result is it looks like you’re putting some real effort in to your output, instead of just posting the same thing, on all your accounts at exactly the same time of day. Internet users are savvy; they know the difference between a company that is doing the bare minimum to hold their attention and one that is actually putting some effort into their content.

EdgeRank Checker Pro

Knowing the optimal times to engage with your fans on Facebook is crucial to a business, as higher fan engagement means more likes and comments. EdgeRank is one of the most useful social media resources. It tracks the engagement of your posts and tells you their average lifespan. Once a post stops growing it is effectively dead and you can move on to the next thing. EdgeRank lets you know the optimal length of time to wait between releasing pieces of content. If you post content too regularly you risk cluttering up your fans’ newsfeeds and becoming an eyesore. By analysing your engagement and highlighting trends in your post history, EdgeRank allows you to get the most out of your Facebook experience.

To maximize your reach on social media you have to constantly analyse your approach. Always look for ways to improve your posts and content. Don’t be afraid to allow yourself to be guided by the statistics; they don’t lie.

  1. Thanks for the article, Conor. HootSuite has been a priceless asset in social media management. Businesses can further their outreach on HootSuite by integrating a CRM like Nimble, giving them access to their contacts’ additional social profiles, location, phone number, email, background information and date of last contact.

I also suggest signing up for Klout. Klout measures companies influence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, tumblr, and other major social networks. Businesses can team up with Klout to reach top influencers and offer them “Perks”. These Perks are incentive products or services that are shared through the influencers’ media outlets upon retrieval, increasing the participating business’ online presence and favorability.
