Pay it Forward is one of the 12 types of Purple Goldfish [related post with examples]. Doing the little extras to give back to the community. Here are two recent programs that positively impact the lives of others:
1. Wahlgreens “Get a Shot, Give a Shot”
Walgreens has just started a program to improving immunization rates and wellness beyond the U.S.
Building upon its efforts to provide greater access to vaccines and other health care services for populations in need, Walgreens is partnering with the United Nations Foundation this flu season. The program will help provide up to 3 million life-saving vaccines to children in developing countries through a donation to the Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.
Get to give. Now through Oct. 14, for every vaccine administered at any Walgreens pharmacy, Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens or Duane Reade pharmacy in New York, Walgreens will donate the value of a life-saving vaccine, primarily those for polio and measles, through Shot@Life.
2. An Acronym with an Interesting Twist from Macy’s
One of the common acronyms in marketing is a GWP. Simply, it’s a form of sampling called gift with purchase. Typically you buy X amount of product and you get Y for free as a gift. A variation on the concept is PWP. A PWP is a purchase with purchase. Buy X amount of product and you get Y for a reduced or nominal cost.
My friend Dana Bach Johnson of Wonderlust Adventures recently shared a creative GWP program by Macy’s. The department store recently decided to provide a little extra to their normal program. They call this twist, Gift with Purpose. After a minimum purchase, customers not only receive a gift, but the store pays it forward to the community. In this case, through their exclusive FEED Program, Clarins and Macy’s have provided 650,000 school meals to children in need.

The program is run in partnership with FEED. Founded by Lauren Bush, the foundation partners to sell bags that help feed kids. Check out this one minute video:
