Patty’s Pioneers’ Predictions for 2011

This year, I asked our most vocal group of clients, who are also our most technically astute, to offer their predictions for 2011. Several rose to the challenge. This week, in the spirit of “customer-contributed content,” we offer these articles authored by three of Patty’s Pioneers, plus some short takes contributed by my brother, Andrew. Seybold. I believe they provide perspectives you’re not likely to find elsewhere:

* WikiLeaks Causes Info Security Backlash: Government and corporate reactions to WikiLeaks’ disclosures will spur innovation and spending on information security in 2011. At the same time, over-reaction will lead to a draconian (and probably unhealthy) clamp down on the free sharing of information via the Web. By Peter Horne from Sydney.

* Apple’s Tech Strategy, et al: Apple’s next generation iTunes will enable a completely portable and personal information, entertainment, and communications experience with built-in information security. Apple’s approach contrasted with Intel’s and others. By Scott Jordan from San Jose.

* Enterprise Cloud Computing 2011: Cloud computing has become de rigueur for corporate IT shops. Enterprise cloud computing requires corporate IT shops to adopt a more carefully layered architecture, with experts specializing at each layer. A new enterprise-friendly cloud player will challenge Amazon’s primacy in the cloud-computing space. By Pat Kerpan from Chicago.

* Mobile Web & Video Clog the Internet: While the U.S. FCC, the courts, and Congress re-visit the recently issued “net neutrality” ruling, there is trouble brewing as all those handhelds and new tablets running streaming video clog our Internet backbone and wireless bandwidth. By Andrew Seybold from Santa Barbara.
