Social Media has changed the game. Consumers no longer purchase goods the way they used to, which means companies must alter their sales, marketing, and support strategies to engage the customer. After all, the customer owns the conversation, right?
But, who is this new tech savvy consumer who is so eager to socialize every aspect of their boring life?
After millions of surveys and thousands of hours of research, Deliver Bliss is proud to present the official Social Media Addict Purchasing Process, or SMAPP for short.
I advise you to memorize the SMAPP and immediately change all of your strategies accordingly. You will, of course, go out of business if you don’t. Just warning you.
Develop a Need
A need is born solely from the egregious amount of time the social media addict spends online.
Information Search
A solution is researched through a montage of Google, Twitter, Blog, and Facebook searches.
Get lost
The search leads to some random blog. The social media addict completely forgets what they were doing in the first place.
Comment on the blog
The social media addict leaves a pointless comment on the blog and makes sure to link back to their own website at least twice.
Discover a Potential Solution
Eventually, the addict stumbles onto a potential solution via a tweet by @chrisbrogan.
Note: This tweet may also originate from @problogger, @copyblogger, or @chrispirillo, among others whose tweets are incessantly retweeted.
Find the Right Link
The tweet leads to chrisbrogan.com where the addict finds and clicks the corresponding affiliate link.
Note: It doesn’t matter who the original tweet came from; all social media addicts end up at chrisbrogan.com.
It’s Free, Right?
The “buyer” looks for the Free Trial option and signs up if there is one. If no free trial is available, the process continues.
Find an Alternative
The social media addict, using their social media smarts, Googles “[solution name] alternative” and tries to find a comparative solution that’s free.
A free alternative
A free alternative is discovered and the signup occurs. If no free alternative is available, the process continues.
Run a comparison
The social media addict Googles “[solution type] comparison” for a detailed feature comparison between the various solutions they have found.
Compare and Decide
A best solution is determined based on old blog posts from a collection of 19 year old Asian kids.
Full price? Yeah right
Now it’s back to Google to search for “[solution name] coupon” and “[solution name] promo”. The addict tries at least 10 different coupons before finding the best one that actually works.
The sign up form is filled out in its entirety. The addict makes sure to use the same password they use on 97 other websites…you know, so they don’t forget.
Buy it and Tell the World
The addict completes the purchase via PayPal and immediately tweets about how awesome it is.
Promote It
The addict quickly becomes an affiliate for the newly purchased solution. They screencast their use of it and write a keyword-specific blog post about it.
Decide there’s probably something better and start over.
Officially licensed SMAPP flow charts are available for a limited time for a price of $199 (minimum order of 100). Call 1-800-555-SMAPP to place your order. Hurry, before they sell out!
