Social presence, a mega asset

So you are all over the social web; Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, participate in a bunch of groups, maybe several Twitter accounts, a Pinterest account, you share your updates via, put some good links onto StumbleUpon and so forth. Oh you are on G+ too? Ahh and also on Slideshare – yeah and you almost forgot your YouTube account – right? 😉 How many in total? Do you even know?

So you spend hours and hours and don’t even know?

I guess it happened to all of us. For instance I’m on over 60 sites and networks. You see them all here: I spend on average 2-3 hours every day in that online world where all my customers, business partners, prospects and friends are. And when investing so much precious time, I started wondering:

  • Do I invest in the right networks?
  • Do I invest in the right group of people?
  • Is spending 20 Minutes on Pinterest OK or should it be 10
  • Do I invest time in bookmarking my own sites or not
  • Can I be more helpful on Quora or LinkedIn QA
  • How much time should I spend re-distributing my content
  • How much time should I invest in my groups and communities
  • What do I do to remember even all the places I ever signed up for?
  • Do I reach my friends and clients on those sites
The biggest leak in your engagement is the fact that not only you don’t remember all the places – BUT your audience has no way to know even if they would WANT TO KNOW. It’s like a strong winter night and some of your windows are open, the door never really closes and you are trying to heat up the planet. In other words to jump from one place to another, pump out some content, answer a few questions but leveraging your engagement across all networks is what you are most likely NOT doing.

Why is it a mega asset?

If you do all that for a business reason it is a serious investment – isn’t it? And that investment is turning into a very significant asset – whether you already notice or not. Once you come to realization of that asset you will want to manage it like any other asset, whether it is a portfolio in your bank, your career asset, or your home. You will realize that there are things you can do with your social asset that you just couldn’t do without it.


  • If I tweet about a new blog post, I get on average about 100 to 200 views in just a few minutes
  • I just signed up on Triberr and my reach was about a Million from the get go
  • When I ask my business friends to help me re-tweeting and amplifying some of my content, there is a good possibility to get a reach of 20 Million viewers – mainly because all of those friends are very asset rich (Social Assets)

If I would be a newbie to Social Media my assets would be insignificant and I could only dream to get to what I can do today.

How do you deal with your assets

Obviously, like your other assets, it very much depends on your portfolio or career strategy. In our case it is the social presence strategy. The most important tools no matter what your strategy is:

  1. A Social presence tool like XeeMe, AboutMe, FullyFollowMe

    You start by organizing your entire social presence and make sure that everybody in your network knows all the places you are on (Asset Leverage)

  2. Social Media Monitoring like Social Mention, eCairn, UberMetrics, Twitalyzer… (Hundreds more)

    You begin to monitor your social presence, your topics and your activities (Asset Monitoring)

  3. Social scoring like Klout, XeeScore, Kred, and others

    You track the effects and maybe compare yourself with others (Asset Development)

Number 1 Realization

Realize that all the places and space you are engaging are basically your assets. Like the stocks in your portfolio or all the learning and experience in your career. Put it all together and keep it all together. Again like your portfolio statement from your bank or your CV. Then make sure you let everybody know (Asset Leverage) never post or comment without making it easy for visitors or read to know who you are and where else you are present on.
