The Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud technology continue to transform and improve asset and action visibility and organizational efficiency across the globe. Every industry from finance and transportation, to healthcare and education is applying and benefiting from cloud infrastructure.

According to the latest survey from RightScale, a cloud automation firm, a staggering 82 percent of enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy in place, with 88 percent using a public cloud and 63 percent using a private cloud. A private cloud solution offers an increased level of security and customization that makes it perfect for mid and large-scale enterprises like colleges and universities.

In fact, higher education institutions are some of the fastest growing adopters of cloud technology in the world. Here are a few reasons why:

Ease of scalability

Whether it’s using mobile apps to find friends and groups on campus, or simply binge watching a TV show on Netflix after a big exam, students (along with the rest of us) are using more bandwidth than ever before. In order to keep up with the growing demand for data, institutions need a solution that can adapt and expand as needed. Investing in scalable cloud infrastructure also allows universities to increase their mobile self-service and mobile applications to students, allowing them to do things like access resources, pay bills, manage class schedules, collaborate with classmates, and keep up to date on the latest news on campus.

Monitoring solutions

In order to achieve all of the things listed above on a massive, campus-wide scale, colleges and universities must first ensure that they’re able to deliver continuity of service to their students and faculty. In short, they need infrastructure that is always on and always working as intended. With the right cloud solution in place, institutions don’t have to worry about monitoring or managing their environments, as the solutions provider will handle everything. Aspect’s Proactive Solution Manager service monitors everything from updates and patches, to network quality and customer experience. There’s nothing worse than a sporadic, unreliable network, and that will never be an issue with cloud infrastructure from Aspect.

While those are both great examples of what cloud infrastructure can do, they’re just the beginning. Stay tuned for part two of this series where we’ll reveal even more ways that higher education can benefit from cloud-based network solutions.
