Why Should Customers Choose You? Don’t Just Tell Them Pike – Demonstrate It To Them!!!

dadsarmyDriving in to work today, I was scanning through the radio stations on my DAB radio and came across Dad’s Army on Radio 4Extra! What a delight – it certainly made a difference to listening to the DJ’s playing the same old stuff for the youngsters on Radio Local!!!!

It got me thinking – the choice that we have these days (and the choice your customers have) is immense. Take radio for example. Typically, we used to have 4 national BBC radio stations, one local BBC station and an independent local station if you were lucky. Now I can access over 150 stations just on my car radio. That’s a lot of CHOICE!

It doesn’t end there – if I get my TuneIn Radio app going, I have access to over 70,000 stations at the touch of a button!!!!! OK, I might be a bit boring and listen to Toby Foster on local Radio Sheffield every morning regardless of wherever I am in the world, but that’s the point – I have the CHOICE!

Add to this that I can get over 600 TV stations via Sky (I remember the excitement of the UK’s 4th channel back in 1982!!!). With Sky+ I can save things and watch them when I want, where I want! With iPlayer I can do the same, and I can watch programmes from the last 7 days – That’s more CHOICE again!

There’s CHOICE in almost every sector today – I can buy what I want, when I want from hundreds and thousands of online stores at the touch of a button, I can download any book, album or film with ease, and I can attend a training programme on almost any topic I want via my iPad or computer.(Don’ Panic! (Geddit?) Just to let you know, online Andy Hanselman training programmes are on their way!)

Our customers have massive CHOICE!. As businesses, we all have lots of COMPETITORS! For example, if you want a customer service speaker for your staff conference, type in customer service speaker into Google and you get 38,100,000 listings! So, what does this mean for you and your business in these ever more crowded markets? It’s all about Thinking in 3D – that means being Dramatically and Demonstrably Different! It means doing things that differentiate your business, that get people talking about you and crucially, coming to you!
