Why Big Companies Don’t Innovate More

This question was raised recently on Quora and I like the response given by Marc Sherdroff, VP at Samsung Open Innovation Center.

Sherdroff stated that he does not think big companies innovate less per se, but that the below challenges are unique for big companies and thus something to have in mind. I agree with Sherdroff although big companies need to make sure they don’t turn these challenges into excuses.

• Big companies have more involved processes

• You don’t want to risk jarring your customers

• Most big companies operate in complex ecosystems

• Reputational risk

• Law of big numbers
