As per the reports forecasted by Gartner, it is estimated that by the end of 2019, 4.8 billion endpoint devices are likely to install in the enterprise and automotive IoT (Internet of Things) sector, which is higher by 21.5% from the previous year. It will rise to 5.8 billion by 2020, which is an estimated growth of 21% every year. The most significant end-users of the IoT will be markets with a total utility of approximately 1.17 billion endpoints in the current year. LPWAN coverage is expected to be in the global population by 2022.

Let’s see what the top Internet of Things (IoT) trends that will rule in 2020 are:

1. 5G: We stand at the entrance of the era where things will transform with light-years speed, and in this regard, network and telecommunication industry is no exception. The next-generation connectivity of broadband will undoubtedly replace or augment 4G LTE connections.

We are moving towards the 5G, which is also known as mm-wave, with a high band spectrum delivering up to 10Gbps with minimum latency. With 5G, the way of our interaction with technology is going to change to a remarkable extent.

2. Flying cars: You must have read about flying taxis, but you have never seen it and are wondering if they exist. Well, flying cars attract various people, yet a large number of spectators doubt its success.

A German startup named “Volokopter” working on flying car concept showed its air taxi flight at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Can you visualize how urban mobility will look like? It is quite challenging to experience revolutionary change, yet amazing.

3. Self-driving car: Self-driving cars or autonomous driving is what we will get in the next era of technology. The way autonomous cars are coming into reality will change the entire way of mobility. The completely- driverless technology is currently in a testing phase.

5. Smart wearable: Wearable had changed a lot from fitness trackers a decade ago. They are now more robust, smaller, lighter, and sophisticated to wear. Beyond wrist bands, these gadgets are coming out with new techniques to look unique and attractive. Now, you can monitor your health through small devices and receive notifications on a connected smartphone.

There is a need to maintain the right balance between innovative means and everyday applicability so that a broad competitive market exists. Since the wrist is prone to the wearable, technology giants like Apple are focusing more on developing wrist bands for potential customers’ way beyond just the fitness freaks.

6. Multi-language voice assistants: Most people are bilingual, which means they speak a minimum of two languages. But, this isn’t a case for the virtual voice assistants because they enable the search in one word.

In recent years, Google has launched its first multi-language voice assistant. English is not the only spoken language, which is surprising. Mandarin can be spoken in numerous regions of the world, and Spanish ranks second with the most spoken language. Adding multi-language support for voice assistants can be very complicated but requires time. Adding bilingual or multilingual support for voice assistants is key to achieving the most benefit.
