Consortium encourages collaboration between print industry experts for the development of industry standards around production variable-data printing

BURLINGTON, Mass. USA – March 4, 2009 – StreamServe, Inc., a leading provider of business communication solutions including dynamic document composition, document process automation and enterprise output management, today announced that it has become a core member of the Advanced Function Presentation Consortium (AFPC), an incorporated, non-profit organization focused on promoting industry innovation, interoperability between its 30-plus members, and collaboration on mission-critical standards. In addition, Dennis Ladd, StreamServe’s President and CEO, has been elected to serve on the AFPC board.

Initially formed in October 2004 by InfoPrint Solutions and other leaders in the print industry, the AFPC focuses on developing the AFP Color Management Architecture (ACMA), an open standard to drive accurate and consistent color in variable data printing. This focus was expanded in September 2006 to encompass the complete AFP architecture.

AFP is a presentation architecture that provides for document and information presentation independent of specific applications and devices. This technology is particularly important in driving new industry initiatives such as TransPromo, and in helping to create mission-critical documents including bills, statements, and policies. AFP has powerful advantages over other print architectures such as PostScript, as it supports very high print speeds, output integrity, and centralized, automated server-based management.

“Open communication and collaboration typically leads to the development of innovative and thought provoking ideas,” said Dennis Ladd, StreamServe president and CEO. “After years of being the de facto standard for high-volume print and electronic output, it is now an open industry standard governed by over 30 vendors that serve some 100,000 enterprises worldwide – from leading banks, as well as telecommunications, energy and insurance companies. As a core member of this organization, StreamServe will ensure that the AFPC has a voice in how new standards are being developed.”
