With the arrival of the 2012, a major shift in the trends in website design took place.

The old and worn website designs from the previous year have now become a thing of the past and new web design trends seem to be showing up now.

Here is a list of the most popular 2012 trends in website design that not only includes some never before seen trends, but always those that many people might be quite familiar with.

  • Oversized Headers/Logos

The trend of using oversized headers and logos as a means of impressing visitors has considerably grown in the current year.

Even though often the whole screen is taken up by these headers or logos, the idea behind them is to make the visitors remember the website.

However, more importantly, these oversized headers and logos seem to be a solution to poor navigation that internet users have experienced a lot in the past.

  • Hand-drawn/Sketch Design

Hand-drawn or sketch website designs are certainly not a new thing; however, it seems that these web designs are become a lot more trendy in 2012. Corporate web designs, in particular, are shifting to the use of this hand-drawn/sketch style for the websites.

  • Slab Typefaces

Slab typefaces might have been used on and off from quite a long time, however, the use of these type faces has become more of trend these days. As using oversized headers and logos has become a new website design trend, they are often accompanied by old school slab typefaces that offer an brave way of expressing what a website is all about.

  • Typography

Tackling typography might not be an easy task, however, that has not stopped it from becoming a fresh 2012 website design trend. The inclusion of typography in the web design allows designers to make use of some very eye catching and unique fonts. Since typography is a latest web design trend, therefore, it will probably continue to gain popularity.

  • Single Page Layouts

Editing away unnecessary elements of a web design has always been challenging for website designers, however, using one page layouts makes it much easier for them. Websites with single page layouts are far more functional and can be easily navigated, so it is apparent why these layouts have become trendy this year.

  • Large Images

It is no surprise that the use of large images in the website design is another rapidly growing web design trend in 2012, considering the fact that the use of oversized headers and logs is already quite popular. Like headers and logos that are oversized, large sized images are not only a great way to invite visitors but greatly impress them as well.

  • Retro

It seems that both web designs and internet users like to get a blast from the past. This is the reason that retro web designs are currently considered quite trendy in these modern times.

There are many more web design trends that have shown up this year and created quite a buzz. The ones mentioned were some of the hottest 2012 trends in website design.
