Unless you have been living under a rock, you are bound to be familiar with the concept of food delivery apps. Not just ordinary, you are also likely to have used it because that is just how prevalent they are. Let’s back up this assertion with some concrete numbers and statistics: According to a Frost and Sullivan report, the food delivery service sector generated gross revenue of a whopping $82 billion. But wait, there’s more — the information goes on to add that this number will be doubled by 2025. You are still wondering if they are indeed as popular as everyone makes them out to be, eh? Now, one is bound to wonder what has been driving this incredible popularity for the concept; interestingly, it is relatively simple: Customer demand. You see, restaurants and other food-related businesses offered up these services to win over increasingly demanding customers and voilà, it worked.

On to the other side of the story: Why do customers want and use food delivery apps? Yet again, this is relatively simple: For the sake of convenience. People today live very fast-paced lives that leave little to no time for trivialities like cooking food. Research has also shown that as many as 72 percent of customers use these apps simply because they do not want to go out to eat. Sometimes it is to avoid bad weather. And with the coronavirus pandemic still raging on, the demand and popularity of such apps have only grown further.

The next factor crucial to this industry and anyone offering such a service is understanding how customers choose restaurants & then the food delivery apps. The simplest and most common method is an internet search. Studies show that 90 percent of people choose restaurants via this method. And it is not limited to search engines — they also use social media to check out the menu, budget, reviews, delivery service, and more before making a decision.

Now, trends. It is vital to keep an eye on the latest in the industry because they show you exactly what your target audience wants. For example, the latest trends show that food delivery services in the market would pay careful attention to personalization. Other notable trends include organic food and capitalizing on this trend will allow restaurants to appeal to a new set of customers, while also aiding local farmers and the community. There’s one more trend that is particularly interesting: Payment options. Research has shown that, first, customers want to pay for their orders right away. Second, they do not want to be restricted to just one mode of payment.

This sector is brimming with potential — the kind that is not going anywhere, anytime soon. And to make the most of it, you’d do well to find a trusted vendor for food delivery portal development and get started on your food delivery app.

  1. I agree that customer demand has been driving the popularity of food delivery services. However, I’d go as far as to say that all delivery services have to meet high expectations. People want what they ordered online in their hands as soon as possible.
