appoftheweekThis is the latest in a series of weekend posts highlighting a wide variety of applications we think are pretty cool. Most have to do with sales, marketing and productivity. Check out past featured apps here.

When you send an email, it typically goes into a black hole until you get a response. If you use an email marketing platform such as Marketo, Eloqua or even small tools such as Mailchimp, you can get detailed reporting on opens, clicks and more.

But if you’re an individual sending email, the black hole still exists. Microsoft Outlook used to give you a subtle read receipt when the recipient opened the email, but now Outlook requires the recipient to confirm that read receipt, which pretty much breaks the feature for most of us.

Enter ToutApp. It creates incredible transparency for individual email senders on opens, clicks, forwards and more. It does this through a subtle, transparent image that doesn’t require recipient confirmation.

Even better, with ToutApp you get real-time intelligence on recipient behavior – when they opened, when they clicked, what they clicked on and more.

It’s like a video game for salespeople, and those I know that are using it are addicted to it. You can also add custom templates to the system just like you would in Salesforce.com or similar systems.

Definitely worth a look.
