PLEASANTON, Calif. — August 20, 2013 — ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today announced that Desktop Central now supports Samsung for Enterprise (SAFE), the program to make Samsung devices suitable for business use. In partnering with Samsung to support SAFE, ManageEngine bolsters its desktop and mobile device management (MDM) software with advanced mobile device management capabilities that let IT admins secure SAFE devices — without user intervention.
Smartphones and tablets continue to infiltrate companies of all size, whether through company acquisitions or through bring your own device (BYOD) programs. Within the smartphone operating system market, Samsung has emerged as the leading Android vendor. SAFE reinforces Samsung’s enterprise efforts by facilitating remote management of applications and device features that meet company-specific requirements and ensure employees remain mobile, secure and compliant. The company’s line-up of SAFE devices in the United States includes the Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4 smartphones and Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets.
“Earlier this year, we added support for Android device management to Desktop Central,” said Mathivanan Venkatachalam, director of product management at ManageEngine. “Now, we’re building out our Android MDM capabilities with expanded support for devices from industry-leading vendors. Our partnership with Samsung is the natural first choice for such in-depth support given their growing market share and position as the preferred Android device provider in the enterprise.”
Desktop Central Offers Advanced Controls on SAFE devices
Desktop Central gives IT teams a single console for managing desktop and mobile devices. The software’s MDM features include device enrollment, profile management, asset management, applications management, security management, and audits and reports. In January, Desktop Central added Android-specific device management capabilities for data wiping, managing mobile applications, configuring profiles and policies, and enforcing the execution of mandatory applications such as virus protection.
Today, Desktop Central supports over 100 security, application and restriction policies for Samsung SAFE devices, with more policies to be added going forward. ManageEngine now offers advanced capabilities for SAFE devices that let IT teams:
• Control access to application stores and silently install and remove applications without user intervention
• Enable and disable device capabilities such as Bluetooth, camera, tethering, Wi-Fi, USB and more
• Allow and restrict use of device’s microphone, USB media player, SD card, over-the-air (OTA) upgrade feature and more
• Use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to push synchronization of email, contacts and calendar items to devices
• Con?gure and update device settings wirelessly
Pricing and Availability
Desktop Central support for Samsung SAFE policies is available immediately. Prices start at $150 for 10 mobile devices annually. The Free Edition of Desktop Central manages up to 25 computers and five mobile devices. A free, fully-functional trial version is available at http://ow.ly/7R4ke.
