The WOBI on Innovation conference in New York started out with a big bang, when Scott D. Anthony gave a great talk based on his new book, The First Mile. I will write a couple of posts based on his talk and I also got his permission to share his slides. Stay tuned!

As a starter, I can share that Anthony mentioned that magic (we can also call it highly successful innovation) happens at intersections – where different mindsets, approaches and skills collide.

This has a lot to do with networking, and if you follow my blog, you will know that I often say that a company cannot have a strong innovation culture if it does not have a strong networking culture. This also goes for you – if you do not know how to network (virtually as well as physically) you will have difficulties being perceived as a strong innovator.

Do you have a diverse network where intersections can meet? Take this quick assessment that Anthony showed us to get an idea:

Do you like what you got? Yes? – how can you stay sharp on this? No? – what will you do about it?
