  • Establish A Vision…

3D businesses establish a clear picture of the future that gives them and their people something to aim for – it creates real focus and direction. It’s about thinking and looking ahead – typically, 3 years for that ‘long term view’. Crucially, it’s about establishing what will be in place in the business in 12 months time – it’s not just about numbers and finance, they think ‘customers, people and finances’, what will be happening and what they’ll be doing in 12 months time! They involve all their key people and ensure that there is consensus and consistency and something ‘tangible’ to aim for.

  • Get Buy In And Engage Your People…

This is all about ensuring that everyone understands where they’re heading and what that ‘vision’ means for them! They create time to communicate their vision and get ‘buy in’. That doesn’t mean ensuring that everyone can recite the cash flow backwards, but that they have a clear understanding of where they’re heading and where they fit in! There’s lots of evidence that an engaged workforce is more committed, motivated and effective – 3D businesses proactively work on share their vision in a meaningful way and make it relevant to all their people!

  • Work ‘ON’…

There are 3 levels of business thinking: ‘tactical’ (e.g. how to deal with customer enquiries), ‘operational’ (how to set up a system to deal with those enquiries) and ‘strategic’ (how to create more of the types of enquiries you want!). 3D business leaders proactively create sufficient time to think and work ‘strategically’. It’s a key challenge for many as we all tend to get caught up in the ‘day to day’! They create time to think and work ‘strategically’ ON their vision, ON the way forward and the ‘bigger picture’. They formally diary time and work ON the key issues, challenges and opportunities they and their business face! Where appropriate, they proactively involve others at different levels in this process too!

  • Drive Things Forward…

3D businesses use their vision to Drive Things Forward. It’s all about maximising the potential of their people and maximising the potential of their business. They create leadership at every level and take a formal approach to setting key goals and objectives for their people and identify the key steps they need to take to achieve them! They link these to their vision and proactively review them regularly. They start with their leaders and their and their key people!
