In a world where technology constantly evolves, it’s only natural that everything tied to it evolves as well. In this case, we are referring to digital marketing. Like always, this area is predicted to see a fair share of changes and developments this year

In fact, we’ve listed out a few digital marketing trends that are likely to gain traction in 2017. Read on to know more.

Native Advertising
Native ads are quite innovative. They’re basically promotions masked as editorial pieces. Thanks to that approach, they are quite convincing. That’s exactly why plenty of businesses use native advertising. Typically, native advertisements blend in well with the content on the host website. For example, the Forbes website recently became ground zero for last year’s presidential campaign advertisements. However, people didn’t even realize it because of how well these ads were disguised. They appeared as actual news reports/political debates.

Now, we are likely to see native ads go one step further in terms of appearing authentic order to overcome the challenge of smarter ad blockers. However, businesses must make sure their native ads are hosted on relevant websites. An article on your latest cheese product makes more sense on a food site than on a news portal.

Proliferation of Wearables
In the past couple of years, we have observed a fair increase in the number of wearable devices making it into the market. This includes the Moto 360, the Google Glass, and the Apple iWatch. The USP for wearables is that you can actually wear them on the body and stay connected to all things digital. Though the response to wearables has been lukewarm, we will likely see them gaining a little traction in 2017 and beyond. As wearable technology improves and devices start to offer more features, consumers’ are likely to develop a more positive perspective on towards wearable devices.

So, what does this have to do with digital marketing?

Well, as more people begun to move around with connected devices, we will see a major shift towards wearable platforms in the digital marketing arena. Wearable devices will soon be one of the primary platforms through which businesses connect with consumers.

More Video Advertising
Video advertising has been doing quite well for now and it isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. This is especially true when you consider the entry of in-SERP (Search Engine Result Pages) video advertising from Google. In-SERP video advertising will promote videos within search results making them easy to discover by users. This will cause a massive change within the online advertising arena. Video ads are becoming the norm as users are beginning to accept them more. It won’t be too long before we have video ads popping up in the oddest of places.

Rise in Dedicated Apps
With Google offering app indexing, we are likely to see a major growth in the number of dedicated apps for brands/businesses. This will be a key step towards an app-dominated business landscape.
