The importance of Post Conversion Marketing

Let’s start with a quote:

“Your marketing doesn’t end with a conversion. Where there is intent there is opportunity.” – Oli Gardner

Now I believe that is true. So many people are focussed mainly on how to sell something, in stead of optimizing the full customer journey.

Have you ever ordererd something online, then when you got it also received a small personal note for you, handwritten? If you did, you know how good it feels to be treated like that.

Another good example are the clothes I buy from a brand called Scotch and Soda. In almost all of their pieces, a small note is written on the inside. Only you, as their customer, gets to see this note. And it usually says something sweet like ‘You look good today’ of ‘have a nice weekend’. Small, but great.

Cialdini

One reason to pay attention to aftersales and customer care as a marketer, is that it strengthens the bond between you and the customer. It is strong and it can be done in different ways, as the above examples show. But there is more.

If you read Cialdini on Influence, you know how people think. They like to think in a ‘straight line’. So if someone just bought a product from you, is he willing to do even more?

Yes he does! It’s as simple as that: people behave in a certain way because they see themselves as a person like that. If they just bought your product, in that moment they see themselves as a ‘fan’ of your brand, or maybe as a friend of you if you’re a smaller entrepeneur.

Example of Post Conversion Marketing:

Bought something at Website X? –> Also like Facebook page X

(Of course, that is just one simple example. Part of this blog is to find out all the possible ways to use PCM.)
Definition of Post Conversion Marketing:

The definition of post conversion marketing that is in this article, is this:
Post-Conversion Marketing (PCM)

The act of asking for – and getting – more from your leads, is known as post-conversion marketing. It’s the process of continuing the conversation with your new lead on the confirmation page they see after filling out your form.

So when I read this piece of wisdom, I became super enthusiastic. I tried to find more information about it and thought of many ways to use while showering.

But then I found out that there are actually not many articles, blog posts and such on this topic. So whilst I had great ideas and spoke with a lot of people about it, there was an oh so rare gap in the internet.

With this blogpost I’m trying to get some more attention for Post Conversion Marketing. It’s really somethign we as marketers should try to do more with.
